What is Geo-Arbitrage?
Welcome to my first article on GeoArbitrage, the secret sauce for retiring decades earlier. My hope with these articles is to outline what GeoArbitrage is and more importantly how you can use it to rapidly speed up your Retirement or Freedom Day, in some cases by decades.
What is GeoArbitrage?
GeoArbitrage is the squishing together of two words.
“Geo” (geography) and
“Arbitrage” (taking advantage of price differences)
The basic principle: Earning in a high-income region or in a higher value currency and spending in a low-cost region or currency.
For instance, if you receive your US pension but decide to move to a lower cost country like Mexico, Thailand, Argentina or even Eastern Europe. There you can arbitrage the spending power of your strong currency and pension income to live a higher quality of life with more options than if you were to stay at home in the US. With this in mind, you can now afford to retire years or even decades earlier whilst still living a great life and having plenty of spare cash to invest or for fun!
Another example, remote workers or remote possible workers are ideally suited for living the Geo-Arbitrage life. Needing only a good internet connection and a quality café with a view, remote workers have their pick of affordable and stunning countries to settle in. The expansion of Digital Nomad Visas has given remote workers ever more flexibility to roam or settle in countries with lower taxes, better weather and a higher quality of life.
