The Lazy 88

Hey Crew,

Listening to the “My First Million” podcast this morning and the hosts were discussing how you could sprint to the finish rather than winding down like everyone else. Essentially, starting next year’s goals now, so before anyone has even thought about it, you’re already making progress. So that got me thinking, and then planning and now I’m locked the fu?k in!

Attack this last 88 days of 2026 and then coast in 2027

Why I’m starting in October

Most people say they’ll start next week. The organised ones pick 1 January, then do nothing in between. “Nah mate, I’ll start next year.”

What a waste. Money and fitness both compound, and compounding needs time. You already know time does the heavy lifting in investing. It does the same in life.

We all know Parkinson’s Law: work expands to fill the time you give it. So let’s use it. Pick the projects that move the needle, keep the timeframe short and get them done. I’d rather work hard for a short stretch and be a lazy bugger later.

On 5 October there were 88 days left in the year, and I’m using all of them. I’m calling it The Lazy 88.

I’ve called myself the laziest man alive for years, but my kind of lazy comes with a catch. The work upfront might be negligible or hardcore, but the results make it worth it. Selling options taught me that. You do the homework, place the trade, then time decay pays you while you go hiking in the Welsh Black Mountains during Xmas in the pissing rain. Eighty-eight days of graft now, then I let it pay out in 2027.

The goals (by 31 December)

Money

Mind

I start Summer School in November, studying economics and finance. Rocking up to a finance paper cold is a good way to get humbled, so I’m doing MIT’s free Finance Theory I course first. Maybe I’m just a nerd…

  • Finance: MIT’s Finance Theory I
  • Reading: 15 pages a day. I already read for my monthly book reviews, but I want it daily instead of the classic “gosh, I still need to read that book before the deadline.”
  • Languages: Spanish and Italian daily. Es fundamental que pueda mejorar mi nivel en ambos idiomas este año, porque tengo un gran plan aquí en España y también en Italia.
MIT offers alot of Free Courses to level up.

Body

  • Weight: down 5 kg
  • Steps: averaging 20,000 a day
  • Food: weighed and macros logged
Already averaging 14k steps a day. So thats a good starting point.

Freedom

  • Family: maximum time with family in NZ
  • Dad: 3 walks a week together – Be present and enjoy time with him because I only see him once a year. Not many visits left really.
  • Nephews: Help them improve their boxing – Help build confident young lads.

Why now

Wait for January and you’ve burned 88 days of compounding. If this works, I rock into 2027 5 kg lighter, with The Lazy Formula live, a full Alpha Desk Discord Channel and a head start at uni. That’s the premium collected. Then I get to be properly lazy.

So, what are you putting off? What’s one task, project or mission you could knock out in the next 88 days that would change an area of your life? Money, body, career, relationships. Drop it in the comments below. Saying it out loud makes it real, and it’s a lot harder to bail on something you’ve told a room full of people about.

I’ll post my numbers here every week. Wins and misses. Subscribe if you want to follow along or keep me honest.

And if you want to trade alongside me, the Alpha Desk Discord Channel is free for your first 14 days: bit.ly/4odUaei

Let’s crush the rest of 2026 and make it our masterpiece, then spend January marvelling at our amazing selves while everyone else is still signing up for gym memberships.

Cheers,
Andy

Petsitting this little blessing! Such a delight that I may not give her back, when her parents arrive.
